Who do we care for?
St Luke's In-patient unit cares for individuals and their family who are experiencing a life-threatening illness. Many patients admitted to the In-care Unit have a diagnosis of cancer, but we also admit people with other advanced illnesses.
Referrals
Referral is normally through your GP, Hospital Doctor or Macmillan Nurse, but we welcome enquiries. Informal visits can be arranged.
As St. Luke's is only licensed for ten beds, delays in admission may occur.
Reasons for admission
- People whose pain or distressing symptoms that are not readily relieved at home or in other care settings.
- People who need short term holistic health assessment and rehabilitation.
- People whose condition is deteriorating and who cannot be nursed at home.
- St Luke's has a limited respite care facility, which is geared to giving carers a break
Visiting time
The Hospice has an open visiting policy. Children are welcome. Pets may also visit.
Overnight accommodation is available for close relatives in special circumstances.
Smoking
The Hospice has a no smoking policy. Patients only may smoke in designated areas. Restrictions are necessary for reasons of safety and for fire regulations.
