Ways to Help

Schools

If you are a teacher and would like your school to get involved in fundraising for St Luke's, please get in touch. We would be very happy to come and talk about the care we provide at the Hospice and how we can work together to raise funds to support our work.

If you are a parent with children at a local school and would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you too.

Here are just a few things that your school could do to support the Hospice in the year ahead:

Nominate St Luke's as your 'Charity of the Year'

This will help to focus your school's fundraising efforts. Activities can be concentrated into a 'charity week' or spread out throughout the year. We will be pleased to give you fundraising ideas, materials and support.

Organise a sponsored event

Here are a few ideas:
  • runs, walks or toddles
  • triathlons or swimathons
  • hula-hoop or three-legged walks
  • singing, talking, rapping or silence
  • shoe-cleaning or window-cleaning
  • sports matches

Charity Day

Ideas for activities include:
  • Bad hair day
  • Cabarets/talent shows
  • Car washing (in school grounds)
  • Competitions
  • Rapping competition
  • Penalty shoot-out competition
  • Face painting
  • Football tournament
  • Tombola
  • Who's that baby? (students and staff bring in photos)
  • Throwing wet sponges at a person/teacher in stocks
  • Penny mile, where coins are lined up and measured
  • T-shirt for St Luke's Day (students allowed to wear a t-shirt)

We can provide your school with sponsorship forms, fundraising packs, balloons, stickers, customized posters, collecting buckets and plenty of ideas, advice and encouragement. Please call Di Eeley on 01606 555697 or by email diane_eeley@stlukes-hospice.co.uk.

Fundraising with Churches and Church Groups

We share below just a few of the fundraising activities, that local Churches who have chosen to support St Luke's.

A Coffee Morning is very popular, this activity simply involves organising tea and coffee, maybe cakes and selling them to raise funds. You can invite all the church members and their friends. This activity offers a relaxing morning in the company of new and old friends.

If you prefer the outdoors, a Garden Party is an ideal way of both enjoying yourself and raising funds. You can invite friends and family along to the party and have a peaceful afternoon during the summertime.

If you are more of an evening person, a Quiz Night is perhaps more for you. You can do this at your church hall or social group, or even at somebody’s home. Charge people to attend and have a fun time testing your knowledge.

We are working with both Social or 'Mid-Week' Groups and Children’s Groups within churches. If you have one, or both, of these groups, we would be delighted to talk to your group about our work at the Hospice.

Collection Boxes

Can you keep a collection box in your shop, business or home?

We can supply you with a free St Luke's Little House collecting box, in which to place your loose change. When it's full we replace it for you, tell you how much you have raised, and of course say 'Thank You'

Each year we raise thousands of pounds from Little Houses, your contribution really will make a difference to our patients and their families.

To request a 'Little House' please contact diane_eeley@stlukes-hospice.co.uk.
