Family Support Team
Mairead, Christine, Sally & Kathleen
Christine: "For someone who doesn't like hospitals, it amazes me that I ended up working in a hospice! Yet, after nearly 14 years my consistent belief in the value of the work we all do remains the same. Among my many interests it is perhaps my interest in the uniqueness of each person that has led to my interest in genealogy, where I 'listen' to the people who form my past."
Kathleen: "When I arrived in England in December 1998, I wondered whether I would feel a need to continue with the hospice counselling work that I had done in Belgium for 7 years. I soon found out that I missed it terribly and was over the moon when I was able to join St Luke's Family Support Team in 1999. In a way that is what people often do when they come for counselling: they find out what is of essential value in their current situation and what is not."
Mairead was a volunteer counsellor with the FSU for 6 years before joining the staff part time in January 2004.
"I love being part of the FSU team and the wider team of the hospice."
She loves dancing, but does not have the time and would like to come back as Ginger Rogers!
Sally: "I came to St Luke’s in 2004 as a volunteer counsellor and joined the staff of the Family Support Team in October 2006. I had previously worked with children and young adults, in schools and for a local charity.
My interests include walking, travelling and watching sport. I am a Manchester United Season Ticket Holder and go to all home games - a great place to unwind and do a lot of shouting and singing!! "
