The Family Support Unit aims to help people in dealing with emotional, financial and practical changes and distress caused by illness or bereavement. Professional Counsellors and Social Workers offer the following services with the help of trained volunteers:
Counselling is a confidential talking service. We offer counselling at all stages of illness to adults, young people and children of all backgrounds and beliefs.
Patients and Relatives come\ for counselling for a variety of reasons including to work through emotions, to help with making decisions, to cope with physical reactions like sleeping problems and panic attacks, to understand changed family dynamics and to explore spiritual issues.

Social workers are trained to help you and your family deal with social, financial and personal issues, offering practical ways to solve everyday difficulties. Our social work team consists of two part time social workers and a part time welfare benefits officer. The service is accessed through your GP or a member of our staff and also works with the Complementary Therapy Clinic. Advice is given in confidence.
Each person grieves in his or her own way and for many people sharing grief makes it easier to cope. The following bereavement support services are available to family and friends of St. Luke’s Hospice patients:
