Today marks the 60th anniversary of the first prototype of the Routemaster bus. The first Routemasters entered service with London Transport in February 1956 and the last were withdrawn from regular service in December 2005.

Why is this of interest to St Luke’s?

Well we have our own refurbished Routemaster bus that visits schools and community events throughout the year. It also transports our mobile boutique (known as the Frock Stop) for 8 months of the year, and turns into a delightful Santa’s ‘grotto’ during November.

Bentley has recently given our bus ‘Luke’ a spruce up and you can read more about that later this week.

So here’s to another 60 years of a wonderful design (and a bus that brings fantastic awareness about St Luke’s and the services that the hospice offers). Google have celebrated the anniversary with their lovely doodle.
