Alice Young, founding member of the Shavington Support Group celebrated her 100th birthday last month with her family and friends.

Alice has been an instrumental part of St Luke’s history and we are extremely proud of the work she has done for us. After the loss of three close family members, Alice helped form the Shavington Support group. In 1983, Grosvenor House, was purchased from funds raised by members and St Luke’s Hospice was established.

Throughout the years Alice has raised a substantial amount of funding and awareness for St Luke’s. Her passion and drive has helped provide patient care within the local community.

There are now support groups and ‘friends of’ groups around Cheshire – Tarporley, Holmes Chapel, Sandbach, Winsford, Nantwich, Shavington, Alsager and Crewe. The groups host fundraising events throughout the year.

Mark Porter said “On behalf of everyone at St Luke’s we’d like to say a huge thank you to Alice for the many years of support. People like Alice make this world a better place and her efforts have touched so many who have needed our services.”
