Crewe runner Ellie Hughes 21 will be taking on six challenges (maybe more) throughout 2015 and wants to raise £400 for St Luke’s.

Ellie completed the Great Manchester 10km last week and has already taken part in the 8km Devil Mud Run in Cheltenham and 10km X Runner Muddy Obstacle Race earlier in April.

She will take on the 10k Suffering Race in June, 10km Delamere Commando Trail on the 12th July, and the 19km North West Tough Mudder on 12th September. In preparation for her challenges Ellie trains by going to the gym, swimming and runs a 5k route around 2-3 times a week.

Our hospice is close to Ellie’s heart as her mum Karen received Complementary Therapy after recovering from breast cancer in 2010. Although Karen was given the all clear the experience had left her emotional and mentally drained. St Luke’s provided her with hypnotherapy, support and free massages which helped with Karen’s health and well-being. Ellie wants to fundraise as a way of thanking the wonderful staff at the hospice for all the care and support they gave to her mum.

Ellie said, “I think St Luke’s is an amazing charity and the support they offer is second to none, without the hospice being there I know my mum wouldn’t have recovered from her psychological problems as fast or as well as she did do. It’s great having the support like this on offer for patients going through the hardest times of their lives.”

Mark Porter, Corporate and Community Fundraiser said “Ellie is a marvellous young lady who has raised a fantastic amount so far for our hospice. The funds and awareness raised from Ellie’s challenge will help towards patient care within our community. On behalf of everyone here at St Luke’s we’d like to say good luck and thank you.”
