Shoppers at Sainsbury’s Northwich were witness to a cycling spectacular on the 3rd March when staff from TATA Chemicals and St Luke’s Hospice exceeded their target of biking the equivalent of Northwich to Land’s End by cycling 703 miles!

Around 50 staff hopped onto the static bikes (kindly donated by The Works) at the store entrance in aid of St Luke’s and Sports Relief, after TATA selected St Luke’s to be their ‘Charity of the Year 2016’.

Generous passers-by kept the cyclists’ spirits up by donating to the cause. A further £203 was raised in sponsorship by Joe Wright from TATA, making a fantastic £1,000 total.

Stephen Weston, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at TATA said, “It was a fantastic event, well received by both employees and the general public. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and raised £1,000 in the process. We will have more fun events throughout the year to raise funds for our partner charity St Luke’s – watch this space!”.

Claire Langston, Director of Income Generation at St Luke’s said, “What a feat! The day was great fun and we are very appreciative of the support received from TATA and Sainsbury’s. Thanks to everyone who donated!”

St Luke’s needs to raise £8,600 a day to provide vital care and support to patients in mid and south Cheshire. If your business is interested in supporting St Luke’s, please email damon_cripps@stlukes-hospice.co.uk.
