On Saturday 4th June, Emma and Angela Hancock danced the day away in memory of their friend Haydn Green, who was cared for at St Luke’s Hospice before losing his fight to cancer last August.
Between 7am and 7pm, the pair boogied non stop, dancing Latin, ballroom and freestyle at Darnhall Village Hall. Throughout the day they were joined by others from the Darnhall Dancers group, including St Luke’s complementary therapist Jane Kay, who was on hand to give foot massages to those who took part!
Emma, who runs Darnhall Dancers voluntarily with Angela, said, “Haydn was a regular at the group and we wanted to raise funds for St Luke’s after the care that they gave, and continue to give, to the Green family. We picked dancing as our charity event due to the passion that Haydn and his wife Jane gave us each week, and we were honoured to be able to give something back.”
The Danceathon raised £1,100 for St Luke’s, which was kindly matched by Care Connect, based at Gadbrook Park, Northwich, which Haydn Green managed. This took their fundraising to a grand total of £2,200 – a fantastic result for the dancers and St Luke’s.
Emma said, “We’d like to thank everyone who donated and gave their time to support and dance with us on the day, encouraging us at every step.”
Darnhall Dancers has been a family business for over 15 years and has a Latin line dancing class on Wednesday as well as various classes on a Friday for all ages.
Vickie Baddeley, Community Fundraiser at St Luke’s, said “This was a fantastic event and great fun to be part of. Thank you to Angela and Emma for organising the danceathon in memory of Haydn; the funds raised will go towards providing vital care for people in mid and south Cheshire, when they need it most.”
