Kind-hearted knitters responded to our Easter ‘knit-a-chick’ fundraising appeal and have helped us to raise an incredible £1,500.
During the run up to Easter, our fundraising team received donations of over 1,000 knitted chicks and rabbits from supporters far and wide and across our local community. Each creation was then filled with a chocolate egg and then sold for a suggested donation of £1.
Local knitting groups were instrumental in helping us to beat last year’s total of £500 by sewing the woolly creations en mass.
Barnton Machine and Hand Knitters, Barnies Yarnies, U3A Knitting Group and The Quayside Knitting Group donated over 300 between them. A special thank you to Craft and Chatter at St Mark’s Church in Shavington for their contribution.
We also received donations from supporters across Mid and South Cheshire and from further afield – our furthest-flung chicks came from all the way from Surrey (50 in fact!)
Community Partnerships Fundraiser, Carole Salmon, has been amazed at the level of support people have shown throughout the campaign:
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in our appeal, from supporters who took the time and effort to knit a chick, to people who donated chocolate eggs and, of course, people who bought them. Everyone has contributed in making this our best Easter chick campaign to date.”
Lots of supporters used making the chicks as an opportunity to show their appreciation to St Luke’s by including heartwarming messages of support and gratitude with their donations.
“We are also very grateful to the many local businesses and organisations in the community who allow us to sell the knitted items on their premises.”
Carole Salmon, Community Partnerships Fundraiser
The money raised will help towards the running costs at St Luke’s; we have to raise £8,600 each day to provide free care and support to local people.
Special thanks go to the following businesses who allowed the chicks to be sold on their premises: Beechmere Retirement Village, End of Life Partnership, Belong Crewe, Safehands Nursery, Elephant & Castle Pub Shavington, North Staffordshire Hospital Respiratory Unit, Alchemy Dental Practice.
We don’t want the knitting to stop there!
We would love our supporters to continue creating wonderful knitted and crocheted items for us to sell all year round. If you would like to find out more how you can help, please contact Carole Salmon on 01606 555811.
