Last Saturday 10th June, 100 staff from six local businesses joined forces to raise money for St Luke’s by climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales. Representatives from Kier, Carillion, Residential Management Group, Essential Cuisine, Henkel and Poole Alcock committed to take on the mountain as part of their incredible fundraising efforts.
The Snowdon challenge was the brainchild of stock manufacturer Essential Cuisine in Winsford, with the intention of raising £8,600; this is enough money to pay for a full day’s care at the Hospice.
Prior to the setting off, weather reports had hinted the group would be in for a tough day’s climbing, however nothing prepared them for the driving torrential rain and gale force winds that would follow.
Armed with flasks of coffee and the good old British sense of humour, the team also had the common goal of raising money for St Luke’s, something which helped them through the challenge. Ben Forbes, Head of Marketing at Essential Cuisine Ltd said “It was great to have so many of the team involved, and to see the energy they went about fundraising to secure £7,300 for St Luke’s. We were honoured to help such a worthwhile local charity by climbing Snowdon.”
Despite their determination to reach the top and conquer the summit, the severity of the weather meant that all 100 walkers were advised by mountain wardens to turn back as they reached Clogwyn Station.
However trekking three quarters of the mountain is a huge achievement and Steven Cook, St Luke’s Corporate Partnership Manager commented, “I am so proud of everyone who took part in the challenge on Saturday, it has been a pleasure to work with so many passionate people and the challenge has really highlighted how much compassion there is within the local business community.”
Collectively the companies have raised in more than £12,000 for St Luke’s and with further donations still coming in this amount is expected to rise.
