And we’re off! Me and nine of the Trek Sahara team left the Hospice for our journey to Gatwick at 6am this morning. We’re pictured with Den Newell from South Cheshire College who is so kindly driving us to and from the airport. Also there to wave us off are two of our fantastic nurses. Wish us luck!
We’re now about an hour away from Gatwick Airport where we’ll meet the other five people taking part in the Trek, watch out for lots of excited photos!
We have arrived at Gatwick Airport safe and sound, just waiting for the other Trekkers to join us. It’s starting to feel real!
A little boy has just asked us “are you really going to trek the Sahara?” – yes we are!
Just starting to board now, our next update will be from Marrakesh!
We’re arrived at the hotel and have been briefed for the start of our journey tomorrow – we have a nine hour bus ride into the desert (6am start) and a 5km trek which will take us to our first camp.
We’re tired and hungry so delighted with the Moroccan feast we have been treated to – we go to enjoy it outside on the terrace too which has been a real treat. The table was overlooking the swimming pool, but between now and 6am I’m not sure any of us will have time for a swim!
We’re all planning on getting as much sleep as possible now and enjoying our final shower – we won’t get another one until Monday!
